OrchestraWest
“astonishing and fantastic that work of such high quality is being produced in Taunton” – Charles Hazlewood. Orchestra West was founded in February 2006 and is the only fully professional symphony orchestra west of Bristol. We are based in Taunton and perform orchestral concerts throughout the West of England. Past performances have included concertos by Elgar, Brahms, Sibelius and Strauss, symphonies by Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven, and works by Wagner, Grieg amongst many others. We are available for hire and commonly are employed supporting choral concerts with choral societies and chamber choirs. In particular a strong association exists between Orchestra West and the Amici chamber choir. Our players include a number who are truly famous in their own right but we also try to encourage young professionals as they develop their careers. The orchestra is governed by Taunton Music Trust which is also plays an important role in the area’s music education. Next year OrchestraWest are launching a campaign to create an Endowment Fund, and as part of that we are creating an extra ticket called a donation ticket.
